Forest Hills Lutheran School participates in the Metro Christian League Division II for junior high sports programs.  Competitive sports include co-ed outdoor soccer and girls volleyball in the fall; indoor soccer and basketball in the late fall and winter; and, track and field in the spring.  All junior high students who meet the academic and age requirements are eligible to participate in these sports.

sport2VOLLEYBALL:  Girls in fifth through eighth grade have the opportunity to play volleyball in the fall.  The 5/6th grade team is introduced to the game with scrimmages against other beginner teams from the local area. The 7/8th grade team competes at a higher level and is challenged by playing 10-15 matches with other Metro Christian League West Division teams. The top four teams at the end of the regular season then compete with the top four teams from the East division to determine the league volleyball champions. One of the season’s highlights is the Concordia University Volleyball tournament where junior high girls’ teams from Oregon Lutheran schools gather for a day-long competition.

sport3SOCCER: Sixth through Eighth grade boys and girls are invited to participate in the soccer program.  The team plays 10 games with teams throughout the Metro Christian League. The top teams are invited to a playoff tournament for top soccer honors at the end of the outdoor season. After completing the outdoor season in the fall, the team continues to play indoor soccer through the Winter.

sport4       BASKETBALL:  The fifth and sixth grade basketball season for girls and boys took place in November and December.  The teams play scrimmages with other local Metro Christian teams. The goal of 5/6th grade basketball is to teach the basics of the game and ensure that all athletes receive the chance to play in every game.

The seventh and eighth grade boys and girls teams’ season is in January and February.  The season is highlighted by the Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (L.E.S.T.) where Lutheran schools from all over the West coast meet at Concordia University in Portland for various competitions including basketball.  Forest Hills has been very successful in LEST basketball by winning the Class A competitions in 2008 (girls), 2007 (boys)and winning the Class AA boys competition in 2006.

TRACK AND FIELD:   Spring of 2006 was the first year Forest Hills competed in track and field.  Seventh and eighth grade boys and girls came with enthusiasm to practice on our play field.  There were 3 meets where the athletes could try many different events.  Four boys qualified for the district meet in long jump, high jump, and the 800 meter run.  Forest Hills won the boys long jump competition and placed second in the boys 800 meter run.
