Library
Students attend library for instuctional time with our librarian weekly. Lower grades are introduced to a variety of authors and genres
in our themed monthly units. Children learn skills in locating and choosing reading materials starting in Kindergarten while upper grades explore the Dewey Decimal system in detail. Reading choices are enhanced with studies on award winning books and nominees.
Our online library system and card catalog are similar to public library systems helping students to work confidently in the rapidly
changing world of information science. Students check out materials weekly and are encouraged to read for entertainment. Fostering a love for reading is emphasized at every grade level.
Classroom units of study are entwined with library themes to expand the whole learning process. The library is open before and after school for additional check out time and research assistance.

Technology
Students receive formal instruction in our computer lab weekly. A wide range of programs assist students in the learning
process with our technology teacher structuring lessons to incorporate classroom studies.
Children learn the proper use and care of computers, program skills and vocabulary terms beginning in Kindergarten and build upon those terms and skills in every grade. Keyboarding formally starts in 3rd grade and continues through 8th grade. Upper grades concentrate on research instruction which is integrated into the course work through a wide variety of assignments. Emphasis is placed on the process rather than product. Students learn to create a strategy for research and to use the most appropriate materials, whether print or non print.
Forest Hills is committed to teaching the proper use of information while maintaining Internet safety and upholding and practicing
all copyright laws. Formal instruction on these rules and laws are implemented in every lesson and with every grade.
The main lab features 27 computers with flat screen monitors, a projector and screen for interactive learning, Microsoft Office programs, Kidpix, Kidspiration, All The Right Type and Internet with various educational sites. Additional computer time is offered for classrooms doing special projects with their teachers. Each classroom has at least one computer for student use as needed. The campus is fully networked and students are able to access their work at any computer station.
