Fine Arts

The Fine Arts at Forest Hills include curricular activities in Art, Music and Drama.  In some cases these activities are integrated in with other disciplines.  For example, students in Kindergarten may hear a Bible story, act it out, sing a song about the story and then draw a picture illustrating how the story might be applied in everyday life.

There are other opportunities for formal instruction in these areas.  Students annually present a Christmas program that involves the Fine Arts.  Spring musicals, class presentations and closing programs also involve the Fine Arts.  Specific instructional classes are taught which emphasize one or more of the disciplines.

Run for the Hills

Early in its development, Forest Hills recognized the need for funding the Fine Arts at a time when other schools were cutting back on their programs.  The school began an annual jogathon in which students solicited pledges of support and then ran laps to fulfill their pledge.  Funds were designated for funding a variety of projects including:
• special assemblies and speakers
• artists-in-residence in music, art and drama
• special equipment, including a ceramic kiln
• art units taught by volunteer parents
• facility improvements including a music room and the Art Space

Art Smart

The goal of the Art Smart program is to create a community of creativity
that delights in every student's individual expression.

fused glass in art spaceWe do this through studying artists and their mediums used for this expression, their particular perception of the world as expressed through the artist work, and to allow the student's their own experience in
self-expression at Forest Hill's "Art Space".

The FHLS Art Smart program is run by enthusiastic parent volunteers.  All skill levels are welcome, and parents as well as grandparents are encouraged to volunteer.

We have had the opportunity to learn about music production,
wire sculpting, die casting, glass fusing, weaving, clay sculpting, painting, and more.

Previously students studied the work of weaving in art spaceWassily Kandinsky, with lessons in art history to all grade levels from K-8.  Working with artist quality supplies, each child created a Kandinsky inspired painting on 9x12 watercolor paper.  Click here to see sample of student work alongside examples from Kandinsky's collection.
