Forest Hills Lutheran School participates in the Metro Christian League Division II for junior high sports programs. Competitive sports include co-ed outdoor soccer and girls volleyball in the fall; indoor soccer and basketball in the late fall and winter; and, track and field in the spring. All junior high students who meet the academic and age requirements are eligible to participate in these sports.
Girls in fifth through eighth grade can play volleyball in the fall. There are two teams in volleyball. The 5th and 6th grade team plays scrimmages with other local Christian schools. The 7th and 8th grade team plays a competitive schedule through the Metro Christian League. The season cumulates with a playoff tournament for those teams that qualify.
Forest Hills Lutheran School fields two teams for soccer. Both are co-ed. The 4th and 5th grade team plays local scrimmages throughout the fall. The 6th through 8th grade team (junior high) plays a Metro Christian League schedule in the boys Division 2 grouping in the fall. The season ends with a championship playoff tournament for teams that qualify. After completing an outdoor season in the fall, the junior high team continues to play indoor soccer through the winter.
Forest Hills fields 4 teams for basketball: 5th and 6th grade boys and girls, and 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. The fifth and sixth grade basketball season for girls and boys takes place in November and December. They play an 8 game schedule with other 5th and 6th grade teams.
The seventh and eighth grade boys and girls teams’ season is in January and February. The season is highlighted by the Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (L.E.S.T.) where Lutheran schools from all over the West coast meet at Concordia University in Portland for various competitions including basketball. The team plays weekday games through the Metro Christian League Division 2. The season ends with a tournament pitting qualifying east and west side teams against each other to determine a Metro Christian League Division 2 champion.
Seventh and eighth grade boys and girls can participate in track and field. The team competes in 4-5 regular meet per year. The final regular meet is a qualifying meet for the district meet. Those that qualify are able to compete against the best track athletes in the Metro Christian League.
Forest Hills has three cheer programs. All 4th graders can be part of the cheer club which is an introduction to cheerleading. Fifth through 8th grade students can participate in a basketball cheer team or a competitive cheer team. The basketball cheer team cheers at the junior high basketball games during the winter season. The competitive cheer team cheers at basketball games and also competes at the Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (L.E.S.T.) where Lutheran schools from all over the West coast meet at Concordia University in Portland for various competitions including cheerleading.
